Due to the loss of the stately large Live oak in the center of the square, it became necessary to replace the tree, and to replace a majority of the landscape plants due to the lack of shade that was once provided by the immense canopy of the original Live oak tree. So, a new landscape plan was drafted for this 90’x90’ historic "pocket park." The Live Oak Garden Club, local to Glynn County, offered to provide the funding needed ($5000) to complete the project. This enabled Signature Squares to get this project completed in the spring of 2017 before the heat of summer.
In addition, the size of the new Live oak needed to be large enough to suitably command center stage as the focal point of the square. Resa Dollar, owner of Southeast Nursery, stepped up to provide additional funding for a larger caliper tree (8” caliper) to be planted. Sea Island Co. Landscaping assisted in providing transportation on a boom truck for the tree along with the use of an auger to properly prepare the hole for the new tree and safely place it in its new home.
